Service interruption via infinite destination-tree recursion
Published Aug 22, 2023 · Updated Oct 3, 2024
Uncontrolled recursion in Catalog::findDestInTree in Xpdf 4.02 allows attackers to interrupt the application while a PDF is processed. The named-destination tree lookup repeatedly calls itself for the triggering tree and never reaches a terminating condition. Opening or processing the triggering PDF requires user interaction and halts the affected Xpdf process, with no reported confidentiality or integrity impact.
