Unauthorized memo creation via unprotected session requests
Published Dec 29, 2022 · Updated Apr 10, 2025
Cross-site request forgery in Memos before 0.9.1 allows remote attackers to create memos through an authenticated user’s browser. The server accepts state-changing memo API requests under the user’s session cookie without a CSRF token, while the cookie lacks a SameSite restriction. Exploitation requires the user to be signed in and to load attacker-controlled content; the forged request writes a memo as that user.
