Authenticated arbitrary role assignment via ignored subtree limitations
Published Mar 12, 2023 · Updated Mar 4, 2025
Improper privilege management in Ibexa DXP and eZ Platform allows remote authenticated users to assign arbitrary roles. The role/assign policy lacks MemberOf and Role limitation handlers, so subtree restrictions are ignored when assignments are authorized. Access requires the Company admin role or another account holding role/assign, a policy normally reserved for administrators; affected users can grant any role to any user.
