Tenant-to-system privilege escalation via scope manipulation
Published Feb 23, 2023 · Updated Mar 12, 2025
Privilege escalation in ThingsBoard 3.4.1 allows remote authenticated users with Tenant Administrator access to reach System Administrator dashboards. The dashboard authorization path accepts a client-controlled scopes parameter that can select the System Administrator scope instead of enforcing the account's tenant scope. A valid Tenant Administrator account is required; successful exploitation grants access to System Administrator dashboards and their functions.
