CVE-2022-48340Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Client crash via freed callback state access

Published Feb 21, 2023 · Updated Mar 14, 2025

Use-after-free in GlusterFS 11.0 allows attackers to crash a mounted client by removing an extended attribute during a brick outage. A synchronous non-MDS callback can wipe frame-local state while dht_setxattr_mds_cbk continues accessing that freed state. Triggering requires a distributed two-brick volume, an unavailable non-MDS brick, and a removexattr operation; the demonstrated consequence is a client crash.
