Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode interval attribute
Published Jan 30, 2023 · Updated Mar 27, 2025
Stored XSS in Phil Ewels CPT Bootstrap Carousel 1.12 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts via a shortcode. The image-carousel handler returns the interval attribute into page markup without validation or output escaping, so an event-handler payload remains stored. Contributor access is sufficient to plant the payload; script execution occurs in the browser when a higher-privileged user views the affected page.
