CVE-2022-48306Network attack vector

Traffic interception via omitted TLS hostname verification

Published Feb 16, 2023 · Updated Mar 18, 2025

Certificate validation in Palantir Gotham Chat IRC Helper before 30221005.210011.9242 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to read or alter IRC traffic. The helper misuses the javax.net.ssl.SSLSocketFactory API and does not compare the IRC server hostname with the hostname in its TLS certificate. Exploitation requires a privileged network position on the IRC connection and permits impersonation of users or access to sensitive messages.
