Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode class attribute
Published Feb 13, 2023 · Updated Oct 1, 2024
Stored XSS in Paid Memberships Pro before 2.9.9 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in administrators' browsers via a shortcode. The pmpro_checkout_button shortcode inserts its class attribute into button markup without attribute escaping, permitting quote breakout into an event handler. Contributor access is sufficient to save the shortcode in a post, but a higher-privileged user must view the page and hover over the button.
