Local privilege escalation via elevated DLL search
Published Apr 4, 2023 · Updated Feb 18, 2025
DLL hijacking in Acuant AcuFill SDK before 10.22.02.03 allows local users to execute code with elevated privileges. The Gemalto Document Reader child installer searches a nonexistent standard-user-writable location for multiple missing DLLs and loads attacker-planted code. A low-privileged local user must plant a DLL and induce the elevated child installation process, after which the code runs with installer privileges.
