CVE-2022-48217Network attack vector

Robot behavior manipulation via parameter-controlled ROS topics

Published Jan 4, 2023 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Parameter manipulation in TRADR Project tf_remapper_cpp 1.1.1 allows attackers to redirect TF messages and alter robot behavior. TfRemapperNode reads old_tf_topic_name and new_tf_topic_name parameters and uses their values directly as ROS subscriber and publisher topic names. An attacker must control another node's source code in the same ROS application; the maintainer disputes the security premise and assigns parameter validation to the programmer.
