Privilege escalation via user-writable notification commands
Published Jan 24, 2023 · Updated Apr 2, 2025
Privilege escalation in SoftPerfect NetWorx 7.1.1 on Windows allows local users to execute a chosen binary in another user’s context. The Notifications settings let any user configure an arbitrary executable, and NetWorx later launches that command in every user’s session. A low-privileged account must change the shared notification action before a higher-privileged user runs NetWorx, granting code execution in that user’s context.
