Cross-site scripting via unsanitized HTML previews
Published Feb 13, 2023 · Updated Mar 24, 2025
Cross-site scripting in CKSource CKEditor 5 35.4.0 allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript through an HTML Embed content preview. When integrators enable config.htmlEmbed.showPreviews without a sanitizer, the widget renders user-supplied HTML and executes inline event handlers or javascript URLs in the site's context. The preview option is disabled by default, user interaction is required, and CKSource disputes that integrator-controlled unsafe configuration is a product vulnerability.
