Root command execution via unsanitized IP address
Published Jan 27, 2023 · Updated Mar 28, 2025
OS command injection in D-Link DIR-878 firmware 1.30B08 allows remote attackers to execute commands as root through an HNAP request. The SetNetworkSettings handler passes the IPAddress value through sprintf into a command string that system executes without neutralizing shell metacharacters. No authentication or user interaction is required, and injected commands can reboot the router or provide a root shell.
