SYSTEM code execution via missing profapi.dll
Published Feb 13, 2023 · Updated Mar 24, 2025
DLL hijacking in Genymotion Desktop 3.3.2 allows local users to gain SYSTEM privileges and execute arbitrary code via profapi.dll. The application launches while profapi.dll is absent and loads an attacker-supplied file of that name from an uncontrolled search location. Exploitation requires placing the crafted DLL on the target and a user to launch the application; successful loading runs the payload as SYSTEM and enables persistence.
