Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode captions
Published Feb 27, 2023 · Updated Mar 10, 2025
Stored XSS in Galleries by Angie Makes 1.67 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject script through gallery shortcodes. The gallery shortcode emits the captions attribute into page markup without validating or escaping it, allowing an injected event handler to run. Contributor access and a visitor who renders the crafted post are required; the script executes in that visitor's browser context.
