CVE-2022-47931Network attack vector

Transaction integrity compromise via ambiguous hash encoding

Published Dec 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025

Hash collision in IO FinNet tss-lib before 2.0.0 allows attackers to manipulate threshold-signature key computations via crafted input sequences. The SHA256 helper, named SHA512_256 in the implementation, joins byte strings with a dollar-sign separator that can also occur inside an input, causing distinct sequences to hash identically. Exploitation requires control over multiple helper inputs; a collision can compromise shared-secret or transaction integrity.
