Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attribute
Published Jan 30, 2023 · Updated Mar 27, 2025
Stored XSS in Blog Designer – Post and Widget before 2.4.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute script through a crafted shortcode. The wpspw_recent_post_slider shortcode places its design attribute into rendered markup without validation or context-appropriate escaping. Contributor-level access is sufficient to store the payload; execution then requires another user to view the affected page.
