Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Feb 21, 2023 · Updated Mar 12, 2025
Stored XSS in sinetheta Bootstrap Shortcodes 3.4.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute script through shortcode attributes. The bs_well shortcode renders its size attribute into HTML without validation or output escaping, preserving injected event-handler markup. Contributor-level access is sufficient to save the payload, which executes in the site origin when an administrator reviews the post and moves the pointer over the rendered well.
