Stored XSS via unescaped link_target shortcode attribute
Published Jan 30, 2023 · Updated Mar 27, 2025
Stored XSS in CC Child Pages before 1.43 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in administrators' browsers via a shortcode. The child_pages renderer inserts the link_target attribute into page markup without validation or output escaping, so a quote can terminate the attribute and add an event handler. Contributor access is sufficient to save the crafted shortcode, and execution occurs when a higher-privileged user views the rendered parent page.
