Denial of service via recursive sample rewriting
Published Jan 5, 2023 · Updated Apr 10, 2025
Uncontrolled recursion in GPAC MP4Box 2.1-DEV-rev649-ga8f438d20 allows local users to crash the process via a crafted MP4 file. Media_GetSample calls gf_isom_nalu_sample_rewrite, which re-enters gf_isom_get_sample_ex and cycles back into Media_GetSample until the stack is exhausted. A user must cause MP4Box to concatenate the crafted file; the demonstrated segmentation fault interrupts that MP4Box process.
