Process crash via out-of-bounds HEVC array access
Published Jan 5, 2023 · Updated Apr 9, 2025
Buffer overflow in GPAC MP4Box 2.1-DEV-rev617-g85ce76efd allows local users to crash the process by processing a crafted MP4 file. During HEVC Sequence Parameter Set parsing, gf_hevc_read_sps_bs_internal uses an index of 159 to access a 16-element HEVC_RepFormat array. Exploitation requires a user or workflow to process the file; the public proof of concept demonstrates the out-of-bounds access under a sanitizer, not code execution.
