Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Feb 21, 2023 · Updated Mar 12, 2025
Stored XSS in Simple File Downloader 1.0.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject script through shortcode attributes. The shortcode renderer returns contributor-supplied attribute values into post or page output without validation or context-appropriate escaping. Contributor access is required to store the payload, and execution requires another user to view the rendered content, enabling actions in that viewer's browser context.
