CVE-2022-47633Network attack vector

Unsigned image admission via repeated mutable-tag lookup

Published Dec 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025

Image signature validation bypass in Kyverno 1.8.3 through 1.8.4 allows remote attackers to run unsigned images via a malicious registry. The verifyImages path performs two OCI registry lookups using the same mutable tag, so the second response can replace the verified digest with an unsigned image digest. Exploitation requires signature-enforcing verifyImages rules, a tag-based image reference, unavailable first-use digest replacement, and control of a referenced proxy or trusted registry.
