Authenticated code execution via CmpTraceMgr stack overwrite
Published May 15, 2023 · Updated Mar 5, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in CmpTraceMgr in CODESYS Control V3 products allows remote authenticated users to execute code. Crafted CODESYS protocol requests cause CmpTraceMgr to write attacker-controlled data beyond a stack buffer. Successful product authentication is required; exploitation can overwrite memory, execute code, or crash the controller runtime.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
