Authenticated code execution via CmpTraceMgr stack overwrite
Published May 15, 2023 · Updated Mar 5, 2025
A stack out-of-bounds write in CmpTraceMgr allows remote authenticated users to execute code or crash affected CODESYS runtimes. Crafted CODESYS protocol requests make CmpTraceMgr write attacker-controlled data beyond a stack buffer, overwriting adjacent memory. Successful login and knowledge of the proprietary service protocol are required; exploitation can interrupt control service or execute code in the runtime context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
