Arbitrary Ruby code execution via filename eval
Published Jan 17, 2023 · Updated Apr 4, 2025
Code injection in Ruby/Git before 1.13.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary Ruby code through a crafted filename. Git::Lib#ls_files passes quoted filenames returned by git ls-files to Ruby eval while attempting to unescape them, treating filename content as code. Execution requires a user to load the attacker-controlled repository and invoke the affected file-listing path, after which code runs with that user's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
