Administrator escalation via stored Twitter-field script
Published Jan 19, 2023 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Stored XSS in Ghost 5.9.4 allows remote authenticated users to gain administrator privileges through a crafted Twitter profile field. The user-update API stores attacker-supplied script markup in the twitter value without neutralization and renders it with the author's posts. Contributor access, default same-origin administration, and an administrator viewing the malicious author's post are required for full account escalation.
