Administrator takeover via unvalidated backup restoration
Published Mar 31, 2023 · Updated Feb 11, 2025
Improper input validation in Generex CS141 firmware before 2.06 allows remote authenticated users to replace the administrator password. The backup-restore web interface accepts an uploaded archive containing a modified users.json file and applies it without adequately validating the file contents. Access to the authenticated web interface is required, and successful exploitation replaces the administrator credential, enabling administrative control of the device.
