Root code execution via unrestricted firmware upload
Published Mar 31, 2023 · Updated Feb 11, 2025
Unrestricted firmware upload in Generex CS141 Series before 2.06 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code as root. The update interface accepts a firmware package containing a web shell because uploaded file types and package authenticity are not adequately validated. Unauthenticated network access to the interface is sufficient, and successful exploitation grants root control of the appliance.
