Contributor-level stored XSS via shortcode class attribute
Published Feb 21, 2023 · Updated May 5, 2025
Stored XSS in WPPOOL WP Dark Mode before 4.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute script through a crafted shortcode. The wp_dark_mode shortcode places its class attribute into generated markup without validation or output escaping, allowing an injected event handler to persist in post content. Contributor-level access can store the payload; execution requires another user to view or interact with the rendered shortcode.
