Process crash via unchecked VVC reference-list count
Published Jan 5, 2023 · Updated Apr 10, 2025
Buffer overflow in GPAC MP4Box 2.1-DEV-rev574-g9d5bb184b allows local users to crash the process with a crafted VVC file. The gf_vvc_read_sps_bs_internal function accepts an unbounded sps_num_ref_pic_lists value and uses it to index the fixed 64-entry sps->rps array. The user must direct MP4Box to import the crafted file; the public reproducer demonstrates a sanitizer-detected out-of-bounds access.
