Crash via unchecked VVC tile-column count
Published Jan 5, 2023 · Updated Apr 10, 2025
Buffer overflow in GPAC MP4Box 2.1-DEV-rev574-g9d5bb184b allows context-dependent attackers to crash it via a crafted VVC file. In gf_vvc_read_pps_bs_internal, a loop increments num_tile_cols past the 30-entry tile_cols_width_ctb array and writes the parsed uniform tile width out of bounds. Exploitation requires a user or consuming workflow to import the file; the published reproduction demonstrates a sanitizer-detected crash, while code execution remains unverified.
