Reflected XSS via unsanitized 404 request paths
Published Jan 25, 2023 · Updated Apr 1, 2025
CRLF injection in the NETGEAR Nighthawk R6220 web interface allows remote attackers to run script in a user's browser via a crafted URL. The custom 404 handler places the requested path, including encoded line-feed characters and attacker-controlled markup, directly before HTTP headers in the response body. Exploitation requires a user, including an administrator for administrative actions, to open the URL; injected HTML or JavaScript then runs in that browser context.
