CVE-2022-47040Public exploit

Root shell via tcpdump postrotation script injection

Published Jan 24, 2023 · Updated Apr 2, 2025

Privilege escalation in ASKEY RTF3505VW-N1 firmware BR_SV_g000_R3505VMN1001_s32_7 allows local users to obtain a root shell. The restricted CLI exposes tcpdump's -z postrotation hook, which invokes sh on a capture file whose packet bytes can contain ;/bin/bash. Access to the restricted SSH shell is required; successful exploitation opens a root BusyBox/ash console that can alter accounts and protected files.
