CVE-2022-47024

GUI crash via unchecked graphics-context failure

Published Jan 20, 2023 · Updated Apr 3, 2025

Null pointer dereference in Vim 8.1.2269 through 9.0.0339 allows local users to crash the GUI through an X11 graphics-context failure. gui_x11_create_blank_mouse passes a null return from XCreateGC to XDrawPoint and XFreeGC instead of checking the graphics context before use. Triggering the fault requires a local Vim GUI session and a failed XCreateGC call; the grounded consequence is termination of the Vim process.
