Stored XSS via unsanitized cover-image URL
Published Dec 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in ProfilePress 4.5.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users with administrator access to inject scripts through a cover-image URL. The default cover-image setting stores the wp_user_cover_default_image_url value without sufficient sanitization and later renders it without output escaping. Only WordPress multisite installations or sites with unfiltered_html disabled are affected, and the stored script runs when another user opens the injected page.
