Stored script execution via unescaped Markdown rendering
Published Dec 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 9, 2025
Stored cross-site scripting in Memos before 0.9.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in another user's browser. The Markdown highlighter and bold, emphasis, and link renderers pass memo-derived HTML and matched text into HTML output without escaping it. An attacker must save a crafted memo and a victim must view the rendered content; script execution can read or modify data available to the victim's session.
