Filename truncation in Mozilla Firefox before 108, Firefox ESR before 102.6, and Thunderbird before 102.6.1 allows attackers to disguise executables. On Windows, nsDataObj::GetFileDescriptor_IStreamW copies a drag-and-drop destination filename into a 128-character file descriptor and truncates the right side, removing a benign final extension while preserving an earlier executable extension. Exploitation requires a user to drag the crafted long-named file from browser or message content and then open it, which runs the disguised executable.
