Authenticated PHP execution via incomplete string escaping
Published Feb 20, 2023 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
PHP code injection in Checkmk allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary PHP through crafted WATO profile data. The watolib formatter escapes single quotes but not preceding backslashes, so a backslash-quote sequence breaks out of a generated PHP string in auth.php or hosttags.php. Successful exploitation requires GUI access to change profile settings and a request to NagVis; affected releases are 1.6.0 through 1.6.0p29, 2.0.0 through 2.0.0p27, and 2.1.0 through 2.1.0p10.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
