Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attribute
Published Feb 6, 2023 · Updated Mar 26, 2025
Stored XSS in VW Themes Ibtana before 1.1.8.8 allows remote authenticated users to inject JavaScript through a crafted shortcode. The ive shortcode renders its id attribute without validation or output escaping, allowing the value to break into an HTML event handler. Contributor access is required, and the payload runs when another user views the saved content, exposing data or actions available to that user’s browser session.
