Administrator-browser script execution via unescaped shortcode attribute
Published Jan 23, 2023 · Updated Apr 2, 2025
Stored XSS in Simple Shopping Cart before 4.6.2 allows remote authenticated users to run scripts in an administrator's browser. The wp_cart_button shortcode places the attacker-controlled button_text attribute into button output without validation or output escaping. Contributor access is sufficient to store the payload, but a higher-privileged user must view the affected page to trigger it.
