Authenticated command execution via IP logging filter bypass
Published Feb 10, 2023 · Updated Mar 24, 2025
Command injection in Sierra Wireless ALEOS before 4.16 allows remote authenticated users to execute shell commands through ACEManager. The iplogging.cgi handler passes tcpdump options to a shell after filtering only spaced -z forms, so an adjacent postrotate command and uploaded script bypass validation. Valid ACEManager credentials and network access to its interface are required; injected commands run on the router and can compromise its data and operation.
