Authenticated code execution via DDNS password overflow
Published Dec 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
A stack overflow in D-Link DIR-882 1.30B06 and DIR-878 1.30B08 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via DDNS settings. SetDynamicDNSSettings accepts an oversized Password value without enforcing the destination stack buffer's bounds, overwriting adjacent memory. Administrative access to the router's web management interface is required; a crafted request can execute code or crash the service.
