Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode value
Published Jan 16, 2023 · Updated Apr 4, 2025
Stored XSS in Welcart e-Commerce before 2.8.9 allows remote authenticated users to inject script through the button_to_cart shortcode. The shortcode inserts its value attribute into generated button markup without validating it or escaping the attribute context, so a crafted quote adds an event handler. Contributor access is sufficient to save the shortcode in a post; the script runs when another user interacts with the rendered cart button.
