Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode target attribute
Published Jan 23, 2023 · Updated Apr 3, 2025
Stored XSS in DevItems HashBar before 1.3.6 allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts in visitors' browsers via a shortcode. The hashbar_btn shortcode accepts a crafted btn_target attribute and renders it without validation or output escaping. Contributor-level access is sufficient to store the payload, which runs when a user views the affected page and can act within that user's browser session.
