CVE-2022-46392

RSA private-key recovery via exponentiation access patterns

Published Dec 15, 2022 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Side-channel leakage in Mbed TLS before 2.28.2 and 3.x before 3.3.0 allows attackers to recover RSA private keys. RSA sliding-window exponentiation with MBEDTLS_MPI_WINDOW_SIZE of 3 or less produces secret-dependent memory-access patterns observable during one private-key operation. Exploitation requires precise memory-access observations, typically from an untrusted operating system monitoring a secure enclave, and exposes the RSA private key.
