Browser script execution via unsanitized WHOIS response
Published Dec 4, 2022 · Updated Apr 24, 2025
Cross-site scripting in the hostinfo plugin in AWStats 7.0 through 7.8 allows remote attackers to execute script in a user's browser. BuildFullHTMLOutput_hostinfo inserts Net::XWhois response data directly into a preformatted HTML block without CleanXSS filtering. A user must view the affected host information; the resulting script runs in the AWStats web origin and can read or alter data available to that browser session.
