CVE-2022-46344

Information disclosure via truncated request-length calculation

Published Dec 14, 2022 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Out-of-bounds reads in X.Org Server 21.1.4 and earlier allow local users to disclose process memory through crafted XIChangeProperty requests. ProcXIChangeProperty clips the calculated request length to 32 bits, allowing a large num_items value to pass validation before the server reads beyond the request and allocates at least 4 GB. Exploitation requires X client access; a privileged server enables local privilege escalation, while SSH X forwarding exposes remote code execution.
