Administrator takeover via unescaped attachment names
Published Dec 6, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Stored XSS in Proofpoint Enterprise Protection 8.19.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to gain administrator privileges via email. Admin Smart Search stores attacker-controlled attachment names from anonymous messages and renders them in its administrative interface without neutralizing executable web content. Exploitation requires an administrator to view the crafted message in the interface, after which the script runs with that administrator's UI authority.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
