Arbitrary file deletion via unrestricted DeleteTempFile command
Published Jan 17, 2023 · Updated Jan 16, 2025
Improper access control in GE Vernova Proficy Historian 7.0 allows remote attackers to delete arbitrary server files over the network. The MSO protocol's DeleteTempFile command accepts an attacker-controlled path without restricting the command's scope, and the Historian service performs the deletion as SYSTEM. No authentication or user interaction is required, and deletion of application or operational files can corrupt the installation or disrupt historian-dependent processes.
